How to get 5.1 sourround from external speakers when its hooked to LCD TV?

DVD Player - Sony DAV DZ120K

No a/v Receiver
The TV is connected to DVD player thru Component cable(RGB), and Red and White RCA audio cables connected from DVD player to TV.
PS3 is connected to TV using HDMI cable.
Query1: Is it possible to get the 5.1 surround sound from external speakers when playing movies from PS3? Currently i am unable to achieve that(no sound only video). but no issues when playing movies with the DVD player. [I have set the speaker setting to 'External Speakers']
Query2: Is it possible to get the 5.1 surround sound from external speakers when playing games from PS3?
Appreciate your help on this.
Connect optical cable from PS3 to sound system for 5.1 surround sound if your system has one.
