Anyone have a 3D tv/3D bluray that converts 2D to 3D?
I currently have a 32" LCD Samsung HDTV and a Samsung blu ray theatre system and im wanting to get a 55" Samsung LED 3D HDTV and a 3D Samsung blu ray theatre system and i was wondering if anyone has a brand of tv/bluray that claims they convert 2D to 3D like Samsung and if it even works like they say because im nervous to put all that money out for nothing. Thanks
To get 3D you need two images, and it has to start with a dual-lens camera. Since 2D involves a single lens camera, there is no way to turn it into 3D.
What that means is to see 3D with the new system being rolled out this year, you need a for-real 3D TV such as those available from Samsung and Panasonic, and you need to be watching 3D programming that was originally recorded in 3D.
-----------------
Followup: the 3D simulator mentioned by Sound Labs does *not* make 3D out of 2D. It *simulatres* 3D, which is not the same thing. It's like re-mastering an old monaural recording into stereo by sending the high frequencies to one speaker and the low frequencies to another. It's not true stereo by any means, it's just a little different than monaural.
Same deal with simulated 3D. All of the reviews on it I've seen say it's a poor substitute for the real thing.
Again, you *cannot* get real 3D of the active-shutter type currently being marketed unless you start with a dual-lens 3D camera at the source and display its image on a for-real 3D TV.
