Why can't I get these streaks and smudges off my LCD tv?
I have a 50 inch samsung LCD tv. I decided that I was going to clean the screen today. I bought that monster cleaner kit. I sprayed it on the screen and used the lint cloth the spread it evenly on the screen. The problem is now when the sunlight or light hit the screen you can clearly see streaks and smudges that were not there before. I tried to clean it again only to get the same result. How and what can I use to get my screen back to the way it was!???
Wouldn't be nice if all of those flat screen cleaning kits actually contained chemicals that did not mess up your screen? Unfortunately, you can't trust all of them. That's why this is the only safe and reliable method of cleaning an LCD screen:
Do not use any chemical products on an LCD screen. Especially, do not use a common window cleaner (Windex, etc.) or anything with ammonia in it. You shouldn’t even trust the so-called cleaning kits that are sold for the purpose in electronics stores.
To clean an LCD effectively and safely:
1. Get a bottle of distilled water (supermarket).
2. Get a clean spray bottle.
3. Get some lint-free microfiber cloth (Walmart, electronics store, or on-line—use Google)
4. Turn the set off and let it fully cool down.
5. Fill the spray bottle with distilled water. GENTLY spray the screen to moisten it. Do not allow water to drip down into the set at the bottom of the screen.
6. Gently wipe the screen in a circular motion with the cloth until it is clean and dry.
7. If you need to moisten the screen a second time, spray the cloth rather than the screen.
If you have a mark on the screen that you can’t remove by repeating the above process several times, get some isopropyl alcohol with a purity level of at least 98% (pharmacy, or see link below for an on-line example). Note: do NOT use common medicinal alcohol, which has a purity level of about 70%. Moisten a clean microfiber cloth with the special alcohol and gently wipe the mark. Repeat as necessary.
If you cannot remove the mark with the above procedure, it’s probably not going to come off without additional aggressive measures that will permanently damage the screen.
